Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize the high speed compression of a linear image and to reproduce the outline data of the linear image such as a character with high quality by using a simple approximation by a circular arc. CONSTITUTION:A segmenting means segmenting the outline of image data to continuous plural sections, a judgement means judging whether these plural sections should be approximated by a line or the circular arc, a first compression means compressing the section which is judged to be approximated with the line by the data concerning to the line passing through the both end points of this section, a second compression means compressing the section which is judged to be approximated with the circular arc by the data concerning to the circular arc passing through the both end points of this section are provided. Then the approximation with the line is executed first and a vector part below a fixed length is recognized as a curve. Thus the outline data of the linear image can be expressed with high accuracy.
