Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered body of oxide nuclear fuel which has high energy efficiency and is adjustable in crystal grain size by using uranium dioxide powder contg. easily available ammonium diuranate as a precursor for a raw material and subjecting this raw material to low-temp. sintering. CONSTITUTION:The easily available ammonium diuranate is used as the precursor and, for example, 300g uranium dioxide powder is heated for 2hr at 250 deg.C in air to obtain 305g prepd. powder of O/U2.30. A green compact of the mixture obtd. by adding 30wt.% uranium dioxide to 100wt.% this prepd. powder is then obtd. This molding is heated for 4hr at 270 deg.C in the air in succession thereof and is further heated for 3hr at 250 deg.C in carbon dioxide. The molding is further heated for 1hr at 1,250 deg.C in an ammonia cracking gas added with steam and is cooled in an inert gas, by which UO2 pellets are obtd. The sintered body of the oxide nuclear fuel which has the high efficiency and is adjustable in the crystal grain size is thus obtd.
