Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the production of a mixed oxide fuel (MOX) with a desired concentration, by taking out spent fuel pellets from a cladding tube and, after smashing the pellets, by adding a required amount of at least one of uranium or plutonium to the smashed pellets. CONSTITUTION:Crashing a fuel inside a cladding tube and taking out the crashed fuel from the cladding tube (process P1) are performed. Then the taken fuel pellets are smashed far more finer (process P2). After that, separating fission product (FP) gases contained in the pellets by heating (process P3) follows. At this phase, a mixture containing uranium and fission products other than the FP gases is produced. Then adding at least one of uranium or plutonium to the mixture (process P4), and therewith making a concentration of overall uranium and plutonium to be a desire value. After that, mixing mechanically the additives with a fuel and producing sintering powder (process P5), compression molding and sintering is applied to the powder (processes P6 and 7). Through these processes, a MOX fuel is manufactured.
