Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily calculate the uneven shape size of the surface of the disk by calculating the uneven shape by a calculating means according to a tracking error signal outputted by an optical pick-up which converges irradiation light on the reflecting surface of the optical disk and collects reflected light from the reflecting surface. CONSTITUTION:The tracking error signal ST outputted by the optical pickup 22 contains information on the relative position shift between the convergence point of the optical pickup 22 and the land part 24 of the optical disk 10 and the uneven shape size of the reflecting surface such as the width of the and part 24, the width of a groove 26, the width ratio of the land part 24 and groove 26, track pitch, and the depth of the groove 26 is calculated over the entire circumference according to the peak-to-peak values (a) and (b) and amplitude values (c) and (d) of the tracking error signal ST. Therefore, when this measuring instrument is used, it is fitted on the rotary shaft 16 of the rotary driving deice 14 for the optical disk 10 and the optical pickup 22 is only put in reciprocal movement by vibration, thereby eliminating the need for expensive facilities.
