Abstract

PURPOSE:To display the color image of high presision liquid crystal cell density by time base-compressing, multiplexing R, G, B primaries signals, impressing them to a liquid crystal cell, and irradiating the liquid crystal cell using R, G and B three liquid sources, in which opening and closing is controlled by a liquid crystal shutter. CONSTITUTION:R, G and B signals inputted by a color camera, etc., are sampled, quantized and respectively accumulated in a double frame memory part 2-2. Until an image equivalent to one frame is accumulated, a period signal control circuit 2-5 reads the contents of R, G and B respective frame memories accumulated before that and outputs switching signals (r),(g) and (b) so that the three colors can be displayed with the same time length. The respective (r),(g) and (b) signals are used as the control signals of a liquid crystal shutter 2-10, respectively, the (r) signal controls irradiation to the liquid crystal cell of the red light source of three primaries light sources 2-11, the (g) signal controls that of a green light source and the (b) signal controls that of a blue light source. When the liquid crystal shutter 2-10 is turned on, a primary color light to correspond to the shutter is equally irradiated to the whole surface of a liquid crystal cell 2-9 by a cylindrical lens 2-12.
