Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance, by reacting halogenated benzaldehydes with a metal fluoride using a quaternary phosphonium salt or combination of the above-mentioned salt and crown ether, etc., as a catalyst in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent. CONSTITUTION:When a compound expressed by formula I is reacted with a metal fluoride to provide the compound expressed by formula II (X is Cl, Br or I; n and m are 1-5 and n>=m), the reaction is carried out using a quaternary phosphonium salt or combination of the above-mentioned salt and at least one kind of compound selected from crown ether and polyalkylene glycol as a catalyst in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent (e.g. chlorobenzenes) at 200-250 deg.C for 2-15hr. The titled substance is useful as an intermediate for medicine and agricultural chemical and is obtained from a readily available raw material in good yield and post-treatment is readily carried out and recovery and reuse of the catalyst is also possible, according to the above-mentioned method.
