Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a charged corpuscular beam cancer treatment apparatus capable of setting the position of a light piece in the vicinity of a patient, by arranging a lens system between the light source of a light field localizer and the patient. CONSTITUTION:Charged corpuscular beam 1 becomes uniform in radiation dose distribution above a patient by a scanning electromagnet 6. The charged corpuscular beam is rotated by the scanning electromagnet 6 in an X-Y direction to flatten dose distribution. The energy of the charged corpuscular beam 1 is attenuated by a range shifter 7 to become low and the irradiation depth of said beam can be regulated with the depth of the affected part. The flatness or dose rate of the beam can be measured by a beam monitor 8. As mentioned above, when various magnetic devices are arranged between the scanning electromagnet 6 and the patient, it becomes proper that a light localizer for confirming an irradiation shape is positioned in close vicinity to the patient. Therefore, it is required that the distance between a light source and the surface of the patient is shorter than the magnifying position of the actual beam but, by arranging a lens system 3c between the light source 3a and the patient, the state same to such a state that beam is emitted from the position of the scanning electromagnet is obtained.
