Abstract

PURPOSE:To transfer images with high density, excellent uniformity and excellent rubbing resistance, by incorporating a styrene resin or a hydrogenated terpene resin into a thermal transfer ink layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer recording medium has a styrene resin or a hydrogenated terpene resin incorporated in a thermally transferable ink layer, and satisfies the requirements for both transferability and rubbing resistance or scratch resistance. The styrene resin is a styrene oligomer having a weight average mol. wt. of 1,000-10,000 (vapor osmometry). The hydrogenated terpene resin is a hydrogenated terpene resin having a structure of formula I, wherein n is an integer of 1-50. Such a hydrogenated terpene resin is conventionally known, and is produced by, for example, hydrogenation of a beta-pinene, dipentene or alpha-pinene resin.
