Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the frequency of comparing processing and to surely judge a denomination by judging difference signal between detection signals respectively outputted from 1st and 2nd detection means arranged on the same scanning line and comparing the difference signal with a reference value. CONSTITUTION: When paper money 2 is carried on a carrier 1, respective detection means 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B respectively detect the optical patterns of the paper money on a scanning line 2A or 2B and output respective detection signals. The means 3A, 3B detect only red monochromatic light, e.g. The 2nd detection means 4A, 4B detect only green monochromatic light. An arithmetic means 13 calculates a difference signal between detection signals X1 , X3 . The signal X1 is outputted from the 1st detection means 3A and the signal X3 is outputted from the 2nd detection means 4A. Different detection signals are obtained also from the other detection means 3B, 4B and stored in a data memory 12. For instance, three integral areas al to a3 are set for a difference signal D1 and integral values in respective areas a1 to a3 are found out and compared with a reference value to discriminate the paper money.
