Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title compsn. capable of being formed into a coating film excellent in hardness and corrosion resistance and free of cracking, by mixing a melamine resin varnish and alkyd resin varnish with a ceramic powder having a specified particle size at a specified wt. ratio. CONSTITUTION:60-90wt.% melamine resin varnish is mixed with 40-10wt.% alkyd resin varnish to prepare a mixed varnish. Subsequently, 100pts.wt. mixed varnish is blended with 50-500pts.wt. ceramic powder having a particle size of 0.1-150mum (e.g., alumina powder or silicon carbide powder) to prepare a coating compsn. A suitable ceramic powder has such a particle size distribution as to comprise at most 15wt.% particles of at most 1mum and at most 15wt.% particles of at least 10mum. The coating compsn. is suitably used as a corrosion- proofing coating for metals, and as an abrasion-resistant coating for metallic, plastic and ceramic surfaces.
