PURPOSE:To prepare in a high efficiency a prepolymer which provides a molded product having improved mechanical characteristics, by using an aliphatic alcohol as a solvent and specifying the reaction temp., the monomer concn. and the rate of conversion in the polymn. of diallyl terephthalate. CONSTITUTION:The object diallyl terephthalate prepolymer is prepared by using diallyl terephthalate as a monomer and an aliphatic alcohol having a solubility parameter of 21.0-27.0(MJ/cm<2>)<1/2> as a polymn. solvent and adjusting the polymn. temp. to 120-200 deg.C, the monomer concn. to 5-40% and the rate of conversion to 25-90%. A soln. polymn., using the monomer in too high a concn., is no longer different from a bulk polymn., and any prepolymer cannot be obtd. thereby as intended; the monomer concn., therefore, should be adjusted to at most 40wt.%. When a soln. is used in too low a monomer concn., on the other hand, a polymn. initiator has to be used in a large amt., and other unfavorable matters will be brought about. Accordingly, the monomer concn. should be at least 5wt.%.
