Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the S/N ratio, to simplify an apparatus and to facilitate operation, by connecting a plurality of superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) in series, in parallel or in a combination of both of them. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of SQUIDs 3 are used as signal detecting elements, and the number of them and the arrangement thereof are selected so that the impedance of the whole of them becomes as follows to arrange them in series, in parallel or in a combination of both of them. That is, when the output impedance of the aggregate 6 of SQUIDs is selected and the SQUID aggregate 6 can be directly connected to an amplifier 5, selection is performed so as to minimize the noise index of the amplifier 5 and, when the SQUID aggregate 6 is connected to the amplifier 5 by a cable, selection is performed so as to take SQUID collation. Since the output impedance of the whole becomes a value optimum to the amplifier 5 of the next stage, the SQUID aggregate 6 itself is also used as an impedance transformer circuit. By this constitution, an S/N ratio is enhanced and an apparatus can be simplified and operation can be facilitated.
