Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound containing a 8-(meth)acryloyloxyoctyl group shown by the formula (R<1> is H or methyl; R<2> is methoxy, ethoxy or Cl; n is 1-3). EXAMPLE:8-Methacryloyloxyoctyltrimethoxysilane. USE:Useful as a surface improver (silane coupling agent) for inorganic materials and a crosslinkable copolymerizable compound for vinyl polymers. PREPARATION:7-Octenyl(meth)acrylate is reacted with trichlorosilane further in the presence of chloroplatinate as a catalyst at -5-60 deg.C to introduce silyl group to the double bond of the octenyl group. Then the prepared methacrylate and pyridine as a neutralizing agent for generated hydrogen chloride are added to a large excess amount of methanol to convert the chloro group to an alkoxy group. Then the alcohol is distilled away and an organosilicon compound is obtained from the residue.
