Abstract
PURPOSE:To control bacterial wilt of tobacco and plant of Solanaceae family, to eliminate the troubles caused by flooding of a field and to shorten the flooding period, by mixing a specific bacterial strain into soil together with inexpensively available rice bran, wheat bran, etc., and flooding the treated field. CONSTITUTION:The objective pathogenic microorganisms are controlled by mixing soil with (A) an antagonistic strain selected from Pseudomonas C-3 strain (FERM P-9396) and/or Microcyclus B-5 strain (FERM P-9395) and (B) granulated cereal residue consisting of rice bran, wheat bran or their mixture and flooding the treated soil. At least 50kg of the cereal residue is applied together with the antagonistic strain to the soil surface of 10 are of field to be used for the culture of tobacco, eggplant, etc., and mixed into the soil by plowing and stirring the soil with a rotary power tiller or a hoe.
