Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel cell which is very high in its reliability and capable of being made small in its size and its weight and of being improved in its cooling performance and its efficiency by upgrading heat conductivity of a cooling plate, by forming a groove for the housing of a cooling pipe in a plate made of graphite mainly so as to dispose supply/exhaust ports of the cooling pipe on a position where the ports are not exposed to a gas flowing through a mainfold and by burying/fixing the cooling pipe in the groove to form a cooling plate. CONSTITUTION:A groove 42 for use in burying a cooling pipe is disposed in a non-permeable graphite plate 41 which forms a cooling plate 30. Supply/ exhaust ports of a cooling pipe 31 are disposed in this groove 42 to be opened on corner parts of the non-permeable graphite plate 41 where they are not exposed to a gas inside a mainfold 33. Next the whole surface of the groove except bent parts of the cooling pipe 31 is filled with expansive graphite 43, and the cooling pipe 31 is buried in the groove to form a first plate. Further, a burial surface of this first plate is provided with surface polishing, and a glassy carbon plate 44 is stuck thereon with the same-shaped expansive graphite sheet 45 in between so that the cooling plate 30 is formed.
