Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower both the coefft. of friction to guide pins formed of both materials; metal and plastic by compounding two kinds of carbon blacks which are largely different in particle size range as well as powder selected from graphite powder and tetrafloroethylene resin powder into a back coating layer. CONSTITUTION:The fine granular carbon black having 0.01-0.035mum average particle size and coarse granular carbon black having 0.08-0.5mum average particle size as well as the powder of at least one kind selected from the graphite powder and tetrafloroethylene resin are incorporated into the back coating layer. The smoothness of the layer surface is improved by the presence of the fine granular carbon black. In addition, the coefft of friction to the metallic guide pins is decreased mainly by the presence of the fine granular carbon black and the coefft. of friction to the plastic guide pins is decreased by the action of the specific powder and, therefore the magnetic recording medium having low noises and excellent traveling stability is obtd.
