Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain various prints by reading out an externally applied character other than characters having previously prepared character patterns, decomposing the read character in each dot, converting the decomposed character to a character pattern, and registering the character pattern in a character pattern file. CONSTITUTION: A pattern analyzing part 3-3 inputs data read out from a character pattern reading means 2, decomposes the data in each dot, extracts a feature in each dot, and compares the extracted feature with the feature of a previously prepared character pattern. A character code corresponding to the character pattern having the same feature as that of the data of each dot is determined and the character code and the data decomposed in each dot are sent to a pattern registering part 3-4. The registering part 3-4 retrieves a character pattern file 6-1 by using the character code sent from the analyzing part 3-3 as a key and the data decomposed in each dot are registered as a character pattern correspondingly to the character code. Consequently an externally applied character such as a handwritten character can easily be inputted/outputted.
