Abstract

PURPOSE:To record data newly without destructing recorded data in a case where a disk is held eccentrically, by reading out ID fields at a large number of step positions of a track, respectively, prior to a recording and reproducing operation. CONSTITUTION:When the eccentricity of a floppy disk 7 is detected by a detecting means, the ID field of a sector on which the data is desired to be recorded is read out at the plural step positions of a magnetic head corresponding to the tracks 8a-8c to which the sector belongs prior to the recording of the data. The magnetic head is moved to the center of the plural step positions possible to read the ID field, and the data is recorded on the said sector. In such a way, it is possible to record the data on a desired sector without destructing the recorded data by moving the magnetic head to the optimum step position corresponding to the sector even in the case where the floppy disk is held eccentrically, and also, to perform a recording operation rapidly.
