Abstract

PURPOSE: To deal with cargo need well at the time of cold storage operation by disposing a switching mechanism for blocking the flow of low pressure liquid refrigerant at the time of cold storage operation and allowing the flow at the time of refrigerating operation in a passage to a second distributor thereby making uniform the temperature distribution of supply air from arc evaporator. CONSTITUTION: At the time of cold storage operation, a switching mechanism 15 is closed to block the flow of low pressure liquid refrigerant from a second distributor B to a second pipe group 51B. The low pressure liquid refrigerant is fed only from a first distributor 8A to a first pipe group 51A while being matched with the quantity of refrigerant to be circulated which is decreased by a hot gas bypath passing through a bypath 10. Consequently, the low pressure liquid refrigerant is spread over the entire region of the first pipe group 51A and heat exchange at an evaporator 5 can be effected over the substantially entire air flow plane and the temperature of supply air front the evaporator 5 can be made uniform. At the time of refrigerating operation, the switching mechanism is opened to match with a larger quantity of refrigerant to be circulated and the low pressure liquid refrigerant is also fed from a second distributor 8B to a second pipe group 51B thus effecting high capacity operation.
