Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a long-time use by forming spiral grooves of which the inner end parts are opened while the outer end parts are closed on at least either of the sealed end faces of a seat ring and a driven ring, and providing lubricating grooves on the outer periphery side of the sealed end face on which the spiral grooves are not formed. CONSTITUTION:Spiral grooves 23 are formed on the inner periphery 22 side of the sealed end face 18 of a driven ring 2. The spiral grooves 23 are inclined rearward in the relatively moving direction of the sealed end face and their outer end parts are closed while the inner end parts being opened on the inner periphery side. Due to the spiral grooves 23 provided on the sealed end face 18, a pressure in the radial direction which can oppose to a leaking flow can be effectively generated utilizing the relative rotation of the sealed end face 18, with respect to a sealed fluid 14 existing in the minute gap of the sealed end face 18. Furthermore, a nearly completely sealing fluid film can be formed on the sealed end face 18 due to arc-shaped lubricating grooves 24 provided on the sealed end face on the outer end part side on which the spiral grooves 23 are not formed. Thereby, the captioned seal can stand a long-time use under a severe condition while suppressing the leakage of the sealed fluid 14 to be vary small.
