Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a rigid polyurethane foam of excellent heat resistance, by mixing a specified prepolymer with a polyol and a blowing agent and foaming the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A polyol (a) of an OH value >=150mgKOH/g, obtained by the addition reaction of a compound having at least four OH groups per molecule or a mixture (i) having two or three OH groups per molecule on the average, and comprising a compound having at least five OH groups per molecule and a compound having two or three OH groups per molecule and ethylene oxide (ii), is reacted with 3-30 equivalents, per equivalent of component (a), of at least one polyisocyanate component (b) selected from among (undistilled) tolylene diisocyanate and polymethylenepolyphenyl polyisocyanate to obtain a prepolymer (A). Component A is mixed with 0.5-2.0 equivalents, per equivalent of component A, of a polyol (B) (e.g., a polyol formed by the addition reaction of pentaerythritol and ethylene oxide), 5-100pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. component B, blowing agent (C) and, optionally, a catalyst, a foam stabilizer, etc. (D), and the resulting mixture is foamed.
