Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the starting time of a cell by burning fuel gas generated by a reformer with a temperature-upping burner and, after a cell temperature goes up to the specified value, burning exhaust fuel gas of the cell with the temperature-upping burner and continuing the temperature up. CONSTITUTION:Fuel gas generated by a methanol reformer RF is burned by a temperature upping burner 6 together with excess air, and this combustion gas is fed to cell FC. And, after a cell temperature goes up to the specified first value, the fuel gas is fed to the cell FC and a temperature up (load tempera ture up) by heat of reaction is started, while in place of the fuel gas generated by the reformer RF, the cell temperature up is continued by the combustion gas at the temperature-upping burner 6 of the exhaust fuel gas of the cell, and each heater set up in both upper and lower ends of the cell is energized with current by output of the cell FC. When the cell temperature goes up to the specified second value higher than the first value, combustion of the temperature-raising burner 6 is stopped, and successively it is made to go up to specified working temperature of the cell FC by the load temperature up. With this constitution, the time that cell temperature goes up to the specified working temperature is sharply reducible.
