Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate a moving body even when a television camera is moved or the background is moved at random, by plotting feature points in a speed space with the speed as coordinates and segmenting only feature points corresponding to clusters having a considerable size in the speed space image. CONSTITUTION:Actual space images picked up by a TV camera 101 at different times are compared with each other and correspondence between points (feature points) constituting actual space images is taken to obtain the movement speed at each feature point, and these feature points are plotted in the speed space with the speed as coordinates to generate a speed space image 105, and clusters having a considerable size (density) in the speed space image are selected by a discriminating means 106, and only feature points corresponding to these clusters are segmented from the actual space image. The random motion of the background is not segmented into the actual space image because it is dispersed in the speed image and does not form a cluster, and the moving body is independently discriminated even if the television camera is moved.
