Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the stability of an aq. emulsion of rosinous substance and its sizing effect over a wide range of pH, by dispersing the rosinous substance in water in the presence of dispersant of specified formula and by preparing the aq. emulsion of the rosinous substance. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. is prepared by adding the dispersant of formula I, where R1 is 4-24C straight chain or branched chain alkyl group or alkenyl group, A is -(R3O)m-(R2)n-,-(R2O)n-(R3O)n- or [(R2O)n, (R3O)m] (where R2O is EO residue and R3O is PO residue or butylene oxide residue), m is >=1 and <=n, m+n is 4-24, either of X or Y is SO3M (where M is monovalent cation) and another is hydrogen atom. The rosinous substance is dispersed in the aq. soln. to prepare the aq. emulsion.
