Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the abrupt fall of a line output by providing an apparatus with first-second carrier generating means and first and second modulating means. CONSTITUTION:A pulse width modulation system is constituted by a first carrier generating means 5a for generating a positive amplitude triangular wave as a first carrier wave, a second carrier generating means 5b for generating a negative amplitude triangular wave as a second carrier wave, a modulation signal wave generating means 6 for generating a sine wave forming a modulation signal wave corresponding to a fundamental wave with each of power converter output U-W phases, a clock generator circuit 7, first-second comparators 8a-8b and others. In a PWM pulse train by means of two carrier waves, a pulse width can vary between 0% and 100% in proportion to the magnitude of respective positive and negative modulation signals. Also, the phase of each modulation signal wave deviates from that of each carrier wave by the half period of said carrier wave so that the abrupt fall of a line output can be prevented during a period of time when the difference between instantaneous values of two modulation signal waves is more than the half of the maximum amplitude value.
