Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable formation of a photochromic compsn. which can be reversibly changed from a transparent form to a colored or hyperchromic form with light contg. ultraviolet ray, such as sunlight or mercury lamp and exhibits excellent dimming property, by mixing two types of particular photochromic compds. in a particular ratio. CONSTITUTION:A photochromic compsn. comprising at least one photochromic compd of formula I and at least one photochromic compd. of formula II in a wt. ratio of 1:0.01-100. In formulae I an II, formulae III and IV which may be the same or different are each a norbornylidene group or a substd. norbornylidene group; R1's which may be the same or different are each H, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group, or a heterocyclic group; X's which may be the same or different are O or a group of formula V (wherein R2 is H, an aryl group, an alkyl group, or an aralkyl group); R3 is H or an alkyl group; and a group of formula VI is a heterocyclic group formed by condensation of the same or different aromatic groups, unsatd. heterocyclic groups, or benzene rings.
