Abstract

PURPOSE:To exhibit not only a pressurization function but also a function useful for safety by coupling a pressurizer which is provided in order to pressurize cooling water and has internally a free water surface directly to the head part of a reactor container. CONSTITUTION:The pressurizer 2 is directly coupled to the reactor container 1. The pressurizer 2 is not directly coupled to the reactor container 1 even if abrupt boiling or expanding of the water arises in said container in the event of a reaction accident and, therefore, the resistance of the transfer of the water from the reactor container to the pressurizer is extremely small and the water moves rapidly. The moving amt. of the water is received in the space above the water surface in the pressurizer, by which the pressure increase in the reactor container is suppressed. The flow of the water from the inside of the pressurizer 2 arising from the discharge of the water in the case of generation of a failure in the piping, etc., of any circulation system falls always down into the reactor container. This water flows down directly to the upper part of the reactor core, thus contributing to the cooling of the core 3. The rise of the core temp. is prevented during this time and the temp. rise until the core is cooled by the operation of the emergency core cooling system provided to the reactor is decreased.
