Abstract

PURPOSE:To develop sterilizing, insecticidal and antistaining functions in various fields, by mixing a bactericidal ionic metal such as copper or silver with an elastic material such as rubber and molding the resulting mixture into a shape of every kind. CONSTITUTION:A metal emitting a bactericidal ion such as copper, silver or mercury, an alloy containing said bactericidal ion discharge metal or both metals according to circumstances is added to and mixed with a base material composed of an elastomer such as rubber. As the base material, other rubber material or a material having the same effect as rubber other than silicone rubber may be used and, as the additive material, a fine silver particle or, according to circumstances, mercury maybe used other than a copper powder and, further, an alloy containing a bactericidal ionic metal such as brass may be used. The elastic material thus formed is used as a sanitary/medical article of every kind, for example, as the finger back mounted to a finger at the time of the injury of a fingertip. When this material formed into a tape shape is wound around the piping arranged in the sea water, the attaching of barnacle or the like can be prevented.
