Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the wire breakage failure of an optical communication line, by actively applying a spiral margin of length to an optical fiber utilizing the flowing force of a jelly filled in the line to prevent the intrusion of water, thereby securing the margin or length. CONSTITUTION:A jelly pipe 13 is placed at the core part of a cross head of an extruder 10 for extruding a thermoplastic polymer 3 to coat an optical fiber 1. An optical fiber 1 is passed through the jelly pipe 13 and a jelly 2 is supplied to the pipe from a lateral hole. The jelly-supplying hole 14b is rotated while shifting the optical fiber 1 toward the side wall of the pipe 13 by the flowing force of the jelly 2. The fiber 1 is deviated from the center of the pipe 13 by this process and is spirally disposed in the jelly 2.
