Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable easy and efficient collection of a rare earth metal from a dilute solution thereof, by bringing a solution containing the rare earth metal into contact with a chelate resin containing a specific phosphorus atom.- containing functional group. CONSTITUTION:A solution containing one or more rare earth metals of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd and Tb is brought into contact with a chelate resin containing one or more phosphorus atom.-containing functional groups selected from groups of phosphine, phosphonium salt, phosphinic acid, phosphinic acid ester, phosphonic acid and phosphonic acid ester and metallic salts of these acids. The chelate resin used has high metal absorption rate and can readily and efficiently collect the rare earth metal existing at relatively low concentration in a solution such as acid without adjusting to proper pH.
