Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize bright panel display low in its driving voltage, large in its life, fine in its pattern, by printing cathodes with fine patterns and using high barriers disposed between the cathodes to solidly form emitters of U-shaped cross sectional areas. CONSTITUTION:Cathodes 2 and barrier ribs 3 are formed with fine patterns on an insulation substrate 1 by a printing method. A height of each barrier rib 3 is for example 350-400mum which is larger than a height 20-30mum of each cathode 2. A resist layer 4 of rubber or silicon substance is formed on the top parts of the barrier ribs 3. An emitter material 5 of rare earth element hexa-boride or the like is stuck on the surfaces of the cathodes 2, the sides of the barrier ribs 3, and the resist layer 4 by plasma injection. Next the resist layer 4 is removed by firing or dissolution so that an emitter layer 6 of a U-shaped cross-sectional area is formed to be operable as a hollow cathode. Hence, bright panel display is realized low in its driving voltage and large in its life.
