Abstract

PURPOSE: To speed up the transaction processing by previously executing credit inquiry for an amount required for purchase before the registering processing of a purchased commodity, and at the time of payment, inputting customer identification data in a card, reading out an inquired result and executing payment processing within the range of inquired amount data. CONSTITUTION: When a customer is goning to pay an amount required for purchase by a card, a CAT 2 previously inquires an amount more than a predicted price. After completing necessary input, a CPU 24 in the CAT 2 transmits card data and inquired amount data to a center device 6 in a card company. An inquired result is displayed on a display device 22. Card number data and the amount data are stored. An operator for an ECR 1 registers a commodity purchased by the customer by the use of a scanner 15 or the like. When a 'SUM' key is depressed, a CPU 16 in the ECR 1 computes and dispaly the total amout purchased. Then, the customer informs the operator of the card number or transfers the card to the operator. The CPU 16 judges whether the total amount purchased is within the inquired balance or not based upon the inputted card number data, and when the total amount is within the balance, executes payment processing. New inquired balance data are transmitted to the CAT 2 and the stored inquired balance data are updated to the new data.
