Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily recover valuable platinum metal, by regulating the pH of a solution containing ammonium salt of platinum metal to a specific value by means of an acid, adding iron salt and regulating the pH of the solution to a specific value with alkali, and then separating and recovering the resulting precipitate. CONSTITUTION:The pH value of a solution of ammonium salt or complex compound of platinum metal, such as chloroplatinic acid ammonium and dichlorodiaminepalladium complex salt, is regulated to <=3, preferably <=2, by the addition of acid, such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Subsequently, iron salt, such as ferrous chloride, ferric chloride, ferrous sulfate, and ferric sulfate, is added to the platinum metal by the amount equimolar or above with the platinum metal and then alkali, such as sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate, is added to the above solution to regulate the pH value to >=6, preferably 7-8. At this time, more effects can be produced by regulating pH while blowing air, oxygen, etc. By this method, the precipitate of iron oxide adsorbing the platinum metal is formed, and, by separating and recovering this precipitate, the platinum metal can be advantageously recovered.
