Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the deformation of members and the internal stress generated by the deformation at the time when the weld zone temp. is returned to the ordinary temp. after the end of welding by previously cooling part of the members to the extent corresponding to the rate of the shrinkage deformation generated in a weld zone. CONSTITUTION:A steel frame beam 1 is constructed and one end part thereof is joined to a steel frame column 2A. The other end is joined by means of a temporary bolt 3 slidable in the longitudinal direction of the beam to join the beam web and the steel frame column 2B tentatively. The beam 1 is then cooled by dry ice, etc., in the part except near the weld zone to the extent corresponding to the rate of shrinkage deformation by welding. The bema 1 is shortened by previously cooling the beam 1 to the extent corresponding to the rate of the shrinkage deformation in such a manner and thereafter, the other end of the beam 1 is welded to the steel frame beam 1B. The cooling part 5 of the beam 1 expands to be offset to the rate of the shrinkage by welding to the column 1B when the beam temp. is returned to ordinary temp. after the end of the welding operation, by which the generation of shrinkage in the beam 1 is obviated and the generation of deformation and internal stress is also obviated.
