Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a gasket material for oil seal which can exhibit high sealing properties even in the case of a cold type and a low clamping bearing pressure, and which comprises a nonwoven fabric having a high apparent density and contg. a binder having particular properties and incorporated in a high proportion. CONSTITUTION:There is prepared a binder which exhibits a vol. increase of at least 28% as determined by swelling the binder per se in a spindle oil and is less susceptible to lowering in the strength during swelling in the spindle oil. Specific examples of a suitable binder include one mainly composed of a natural rubber and other rubber component (e.g., SBR) blended therewith as an auxiliary component for preventing a lowering in the strength during swelling in the spindle oil of the natural rubber. This binder is blended in a high proportion to prepare a nonwoven fabric having a high apparent density and a strength retention of 85% or more during swelling in the spindle oil. This nonwoven fabric is used as a gasket material for oil seal.
