Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic carbon black excellent in magnetic performances and dispersibility in resin, rubber, etc., by injecting a hydrocarbon feed and a magnetic transition metal compound from specified positions. CONSTITUTION:A hydrocarbon feed (A) which is preferably an unsaturated gaseous hydrocarbon or a lower alcohol is introduced into the stream by spraying from the upstream and downstream zones of a high-temperature gas stream obtained by the perfect combustion of a light hydrocarbon oil, natural gas or the like in the combustion chamber on the head of a reaction furnace, and a compound (B) of a magnetic transition metal selected from Fe, Co and Ni is poured into it by spraying from an intermediate position between said upstream and downstream zones. Microparticles of component B are homogeneously and microscopically dispersed in the primary particles of carbon black formed by the pyrolysis of component A and immobilized in the particles by fusion.
