Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a catalytic substance excellent in the contact property of various kind shapes or a light and strong structural material, etc. with heat resistance by sintering a honeycomb formed object, after said object has been worked into the prescribed shape in hot water at the temperature equal to the gelation temperature or higher, and has been dried. CONSTITUTION:A honeycomb formed object is constituted of ceramic powder, a binder, and an added forming auxiliary according to necessity. This object is put in the heated water at the temperature equal to the thermal gelation temperature or higher of the binder, and the binder in the honeycomb formed object is caused to gel and then it is sintered after it has been dried. Consequently, while the honeycomb shape of said formed object is not broken and the elasticity of the formed object is kept, the desired honeycomb formed object may obtained. As the used ceramic powder, silica, alumina, titania, zirconia and the titanate of alkali or alkali earth metal, etc. are used. As the binder having a thermal gelation temperature, the cellulose ethers with methoxy group, a natural substance such as wheat flour are used.
