Abstract
PURPOSE: To avert the phenomenon by which a sudden dealing with is disabled even if the characteristic quantity of an object changes slightly when said object changes by providing a shape recognizing means using a fuzzy theory to a position detector mounted on the front end of the operating section of an automatic machine.
CONSTITUTION: The position detector 1 receives the light reflected from the surface of the object by a light projecting and receiving means 13. A scanning means 14 operates the means 13 until the scanning ends. Said means converts the quantity of the reflected light to a distance upon ending of the scanning. The shape recognizing means 17 extracts the characteristic quantity (a) (the derivative of the quantity of the received light) and calculates the value of a membership function A. This function A outputs the intermediate value of 0 and 1 as well. The means extracts the characteristic quantity (b) (the derivative of the distance) as well and calculates the value of a membership function B in the same manner. The values of the functions A, B is then synthesized and the shape of the object is recognized from the value thereof. The position of the object is calculated 16. The value of the function B attains the value in excess of, for example, 0.8, and near 1 even if either of the values normalizing the characteristic values A, B is slightly smaller than the threshold of the conventional functions. The shape recognition is thus executed by synthesizing the values of the functions A, B.
