Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable printing data to be written directly on a printing plate by use of a semiconductor laser, by incorporating a specified azo compound and a wax and/or a thermoplastic resin having a melting or softening point of 40-150 deg.C into an image-forming layer. CONSTITUTION:A printing plate material for laser process is used which comprises an azo compound of general formula [I] and a wax and/or a thermoplastic resin having a melting or softening point of 40-150 deg.C. The amount of the azo compound is 0.5-20wt.% based on the total weight of the composition comprising the wax and/or the thermoplastic resin. In the formula, each of Q<1> and Q<4> is a hydroxyl, amino, acylamino or SO3M-substd. naphthalene ring or alkyl or SO3M-substd. benzene ring, each of Q<2> and Q<3> is an SO3M- substd. naphthalene ring, alkyl or alkoxyl, each of R<1> and R<2> is hydroxyl or amino, and M is hydrogen, an alkali metal, amine or ammonium salt.
