Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:2, 6-Di-t-butyl-4-[3-( 2, 6-di-t-butyl-4H-thiopyran-4-ylidene )propen-1-yl]thiopyrylium salts of formula I (wherein Z-≤ is anion).
USE: Sensitizers in a normal or an electrophoretic electrophotography method. Particularly, sensitizers in a color electrophotography method employing light-conductive particles. PREPARATIN:A 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylthiopyrylium salt of formula II (wherein Z- is anion) is reacted with diphenylformamidine or hydrochloride thereof in the presence of an amine such as an arom. amine or an unsaturated nitrogen-contg. heterocyclic cpd. or in an anhydrous carboxylic acid to produce the desired thiopyrylium salt dye. When the diphenylformamidine hydrochloride is used, both reactants are molten and then subjected to the reaction.
