Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the durability and roadability without impairing the strength to pressure indispensable for the tube for bicycle by a method wherein the end part of a tube to be joined is thinned in advance and joined in such a joining method, by which the specified joint strength is obtained. CONSTITUTION:When both the ends of a tube made of thermoplastic elastomer are to be joined together by overlapping, one of or both the ends of the tube to be arranged inside and outside are thinned so as to satisfy the relationship of a/b=1.1-1.9 in the ratio of the thickness (a) of the overlapped portion of the joined part to the thickness (b) of the tube. After that, both the ends of the tube are joined in such a manner that the resultant joint strength is larger than the tensile stress at 150% elongation of the tube in use. If the ratio a/b of the thickness (a) to the tube thickness (b) is below 1.1, performances such as the durability, strength to pressure and the like at the joined part are impaired, though the excellent roadability is obtained, since the tube swells comparatively uniformly after the charging of air. If the ratio a/b exceeds 1.9, the roadability or riding will be felt remarkably bad, since vibration and jolting during running are violent.
