CONSTITUTION:A specified amount of nickel hydroxide containing 5wt.% cobalt hydroxide is impregnated in a nickel sintered substrate, and the nickel sintered substrate is immersed in magnesium nitrate solution having a specific gravity of 1.30 and dried. The substrate is immersed in alkaline solution to convert magnesium nitrate into its hydroxide, then washed with water to wash out the alkaline solution. The generation of alpha-NiOOH which deteriorates discharge performance is retarded to produce beta-NiOOH only. Discharge potential and discharge capacity in high rate discharge can be increased.
