Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable good thermal efficiency and reduction of manufacturing cost to be achieved by improving a head life greatly, by a method wherein energy necessary for generating bubbles is divided into a plurality of driving potential pulses, and a current direction of, at least, one pulse among them is made reverse to that of the other pulses. CONSTITUTION:SiO2 as a heat accumulating layer is formed on a Si substrate, and a heating resistor Ta-SiO2 and an electrode Au are formed thereon. No protection film is formed on the electrode and the heating resistor. A driving method in which a main head is dipped in ink, one bubble generation energy is divided into two parts, a select electrode potential is changed to +40V against a common electrode potential of +20V constant (straight line A), is changed to 0V after keeping for 3musec, is further kept for 3musec, and one bubble is generated (those hereto are called a first driving potential pulse group) is repeated. Even after not less than 500 million pieces of bubbles have generated (500 million driving potential pulse group impression), there is no problem in stability of bubble generation, a head electrode, damage of the heating resistor, etc.
