Abstract

PURPOSE:To accomplish the titled smoothing by forming on a glass surface a film consisting of SiO2, TiO2, SnO2 etc. through the sol-gel process to free said surface from flows and asperities. CONSTITUTION:First, using as the SiO2 raw material, a SiO2 film-forming solution containing e.g. an alkoxysilane compound, a glass substrate surface is coated followed by heating to effect firm bonding of the SiO2 film on the substrate. Thence, through the sol-gel process as the above, a film consisting of TiO2, SnO2, InO3, Ta2O5 or mixture thereof is formed on the resultant substrate surface, thus smoothing the surface by freeing the flaws and asperities thereon to make the surface smooth.
