Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize highly precise character recognition by converting the position coordinate and the bending direction and the degree of bend of the bending point of an input character pattern outline part into plural codes respectively, and counting and using the number of occurrence of every code of the obtained codes. CONSTITUTION:A business form 1 on which a character is written, is converted into a binary quantized pattern by a scanning and photoelectric converting part 2, and is forwarded by one character unit by a character forwarding part 3. Next, after the normalization of size and the removal of a noise are performed in a preprocessing part 4, the bending point of the outline part is detected, and the respective information of the position coordinate, the bending direction and the degree of bend of the bending point is obtained in a bending point information extracting part 5. In a code converting part 6, the position coordinate, the bending direction and the degree of bend are respectively converted into plural codes, and based on these codes, features are counted in a feature counting part 7. In a deciding part 8, they are compared and collated with the set of a feature value, stored in a dictionary part 9, and a category, to which the input character pattern belongs, is determined, and is outputted as a recognition result. Thus, the highly precise character recognition can be realized.
