Abstract

PURPOSE:To take an electric field analysis of an optional member shape and a defective shape automatically by employing a three-dimensional boundary fit converting method. CONSTITUTION:A measurement head 3 provided with a power feed terminal 4 connected to a DC power source 6 and a measurement terminal 5 connected to a potentiometer 7 is pressed against the surface of a structure member 1 and scanned rectangularly in an X direction and a Y direction to measure a potential difference distribution. The measured potential difference distribution is converted into a potential difference ratio distribution to calculate the length (2c) and depth (a) of a crack 2. Then basic elements are divided and the boundary fit converting method is employed to set element shapes so that the surface length of the crack is 2c and the maximum depth is (a). When initial element division is finished, an electric field is analyzed and while the element shape is varied, an electric field analysis is further taken to decide and output the cracking shape when the maximum potential difference ratio equals a measured maximum potential difference ratio as an actual cracking shape.
