Abstract

PURPOSE: To make an optical probe connectable to an ordinary measuring instrument and to easily measure optical signals from an optical fiber using the measuring instrument by converting the optical signals into electric signals and performing impedance matching to output the electric signals. CONSTITUTION: A beam of light from an optical fiber 16 is converged on a photodiode 20 through a rod lens 18 and the output of the diode 20 is converted into a current output by a high bias voltage. The dynamic range of the diode 20 is improved by an offset current source 22 and a probe can be applied to a beam of light having a wide range of intensities. The diode 20 is connected to a transformer impedance amplifier 24 and converts an input current into an output voltage. The output impedance of the diode 20 is matched by means of a terminating resistor RT and can be inputted to an oscilloscope through a connector 26. Therefore, optical signals can be measured with an ordinary measuring instrument.
