Abstract

PURPOSE: To attempt the miniaturization of a piezoelectric actuator by communicating a fuel pressure charging chamber located between the piezoelectric actuator and a down-take valve at a position capable of being opened/closed by a plunger through a charging passage.
CONSTITUTION: In an unit injector, a pressure chamber 22 is formed at the lower section of a plunger 16 which is elevated/lowered by the rotation of a cam via a tappet 18, the aforesaid pressure chamber 22 is communicated to a needle via a passage 24 within a needle chassis 10. And fuel is thereby injected from a nozzle 23 when the needle is opened. And a down-take control valve 40 is included in a fuel discharging passage 34 communicated to the pressure chamber 22 wherein a piezoelectric element actuator 52 is arranged on the back side of the aforesaid valve 40 so as to control the quantity of fuel injection. In this case, it is so designed that a fuel pressure charging chamber 56 formed between the piezoelectric element actuator 52 and the down-take control valve 40 is communicated to the pressure chamber 22 so as to be capable of being opened/closed by the plunger 16.
