Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a memory using efficiency and the input operability of binary picture by inputting binary picture data to the bit plane of a picture memory with a position detecting means to detect a designating position on the picture memory. CONSTITUTION:When an operator contacts a light pen including an optical sensor 80 to the displaying screen of a monitoring device 50 so as to draw a purpose picture, the sensor 80 generates a pulse by the passage of a scanning electronic beam, and the address corresponding to the monitor screen abutting position of the optical sensor 80 is obtained by a waveform shaping circuit 84 and a latch circuit 86. A main control circuit 20 fetches the holding address value of the latch circuit 86 in accordance with the output pulse of the waveform shaping circuit 84 and rewrites data '1' of the bit plane corresponding to the address value to '0' through a memory control circuit 52. By the rewriting, by following to trace the monitor screen with the light pen, a hand-written character is displayed with black characters to a white background on the monitor screen.
