Abstract
PURPOSE: To effect isomerization of an olefin in the presence of a specific solid base, thus producing an inner olefin stably in high yield with high catalyst activity without formation of by-products such as polymers.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of a stabilized inner olefin by isomerization of an olefin, a solid base is used as a catalyst, which is prepared by heating an alumina, preferably γ- or α-alumina of 100W300 mesh particle sizes, together with an alkali metal hydroxide in an inert atmosphere at 200W500°C, preferably 250W400°C for 0.5W10hr, then with an alkali metal hydride for 10W300min. The amount of the catalyst used is 1/3,000W1/20 by weight based on the feed, while the isomerization reaction is conducted at -30W120°C, preferably -10W100°C.
